Arriving in Canberra

Once you have been accepted as a CIT student you will need to start planning your arrival to Australia.

The first thing that you will need to do is book your flight to Canberra.

You should book your flights well ahead as February and July can be busy times of year and you may not get the flights you require.

Once you have booked your flights you can start organizing what you will need to bring with you. Here is a list of important things to remember:

  • Passport
  • Tickets for your flights
  • Money for your initial arrival
  • Contact details/address book of family, friends and the staff at the International Division at CIT. When you arrive at orientation you will need to provide the details of family at home. It is also a good idea to keep in touch with family and friends to let them know you are okay
  • Accommodation details, airport pickup details. If you are arranging your own accommodation and require temporary accommodation until more permanent accommodation is found, please contact the International Division and we will send you booklet on accommodation available in Canberra
  • Clothes for all seasons, sweaters, long pants, shorts, t-shirts, skirts etc
  • Covered shoes, hat, sunglasses for both summer and winter
  • Blanket, sheets, pillow depending on the type of accommodation you are going to
  • Depending on your course you may wish to bring your own PC or laptop as they can be less expensive to purchase in your home country. You are allowed to bring a PC or laptop into Australia if you are a student
  • If you intend to apply for work while you are in Australia you may wish to bring with you previous work references, references from school teachers or principals and academic transcripts

Orientation Day

  • You are encouraged to attend an orientation day prior to commencement of your course.
  • You will be advised of the date for orientation prior to your arrival in Canberra.
  • It is important that you attend orientation to prepare for study and be officially enrolled into your course.
  • You will need to ensure that you arrive in Canberra at least a couple of days before orientation to familiarise yourself with the city.
