Overview

This degree program prepares students for professional practice in a broad range of niche markets and develops the professional attributes required to participate in the diversity of the fashion industry in a global arena.

Bachelor Degree Leadership roles within the fashion industry including: Independent Designer, Design Manager, Product Development Manager, Head Fashion/Costume Designer, Freelance Consultant, Stylist, Fashion Illustrator or Editor.

Advanced Diploma (optional exit 2 years) Design Supervisor, Senior Pattern Maker, Design Coordinator or Assistant Designer.

Teaching Methods and Assessment

Teaching methods include lectures, discussion and workshop sessions and opportunities to practice in real and/or simulated work setting.

Students will be assessed on their ability to apply their knowledge and skills to design projects that will be expected of them when they engage in professional practice in the design industry.

Presentation and defence of their design solutions and decision making forms an essential part of the assessment.


Entry Requirements

  • ACT Year 12 Certificate or equivalent or Adult Entry
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no band score less than 5.0)
  • A portfolio of recent work which should consist of at least six pieces of visual art and/or design work. This could include a visual diary; sketches and drawings; paintings or mixed-media artwork; e.g. images and text; design developmental work; illustrations and prints; e.g. silk screen; woodcuts; etching or linocuts; related interest; e.g. three-dimensional work; photographs; textile design; ceramics etc. Colour prints, slides, CD or video presentation of your work is acceptable
  • Interview (or other negotiated process)
Applicants who do not meet these entry requirements are able to commence studies through the Certificate III Design Fundamentals.


Pathways to Further Study

Graduates of the Bachelor Degrees will be eligible to apply, under normal entry requirements, for entry into University Honours programs such as those of the Bachelor of Arts (visual Arts) at the Australian National University, and the Bachelor of Art (Fashion) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.


Materials and Equipment Fees

  • Textbooks $300 (AUD) per semester
  • Project Materials $500 (AUD) per semester
  • Excursions $200 (AUD) per semester

Tuition Fees

  • $10,500 (AUD) per year for first and second years of study
  • $13,400 (AUD) for third year of study
