Information Technology (Systems Administration) - Diploma


Summary:All computer systems, once built, require ongoing support. This program provides you with the theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills in managing these systems and providing support to those who use the system. You will train on the Department's purpose built systems where you can look behind the scenes of the operating system and other system services.

Delivery Mode:4 semesters full-time (approx. 21 hours per week) OR intensive pathway 3 semesters full-time (approx. 28 hours per week) OR part-time equivalent

Entry Requirements:  You must
- have an ACT Year 12 Certificate (or equivalent) AND have communication skills equivalent to Year 12 English AND have basic computing skills*
OR
- be Mature Age (turn at least 20 in first year of study) AND have communication skills equivalent to Year 12 English AND have basic computing skills*
OR
- have a Certificate II in Information Technology (or equivalent) AND have communication skills equivalent to Year 12 English

* Basic computing skills include being able to operate a personal computer, other hardware, create and manage basic files, perform simple operating system tasks and work with more than one standard software package such as word processing, spreadsheets, database or web browser. If you do not have these skills you may enrol into the Certificate II in Information Technology.

Credit Transfer:  The Diploma provides credit into:
University of Canberra
- Bachelor of Information Technology
- Bachelor of Software Engineering
- Bachelor of Business Informatics.

Additional Information:  You may be required to pay additional costs (approximately $150 - $500) associated with textbooks, stationery requirements and materials fees. You will also need a removable hard disk drive. If you are a new student, you will be enrolled in the subject EMSK 110 Preparing for employment in your chosen profession prior to starting your studies at CIT.
With successful completion of the Diploma, you are eligible for Provisional Associate Membership (AACS Prov) of the Australian Computer Society. After 2 years of relevant industry experience in information technology, you will then be eligible for Associate Membership (AACS).
