Frequently Asked Questions
Why Flexible Learning? You may have just left school. You may already have a job. You may be looking to learn new skills or to improve the skills you have. Flexible learning will help you fit study into your life. You can enrol at any time during the year, and you can do the assessment when you feel ready. The Learning Centre is open six days (60 hours) a week, fifty weeks a year. FeesFees are calculated per subject in the same way as for any other mode of learning. Concessions apply to eligible students. So what about the Flexible Learning Centre? We have found that many adults prefer to learn with a less formal approach. Flexible Learning at the Learning Centre uses student-oriented approaches to learning. The emphasis is on learning by doing and helping you to become an independent learner. When you enrol your fees cover an agreed number of modules. You are able to go as quickly or as slowly as you need. You study at times to suit you. All of the courses have self-paced resources (typically printed and online resources), which will give you much of what you need to know. So when you come to the Learning Centre, you can expect to find other people working on the same subjects, but you may all be at different stages. The staff will be there to help you, even though you may not be doing the same work as others in the Learning Centre. Here's what to expect:
How will I know how I’m going with my work? Most of the subjects at the Learning Centre have assignments and assessment, which occur as you work through your course. This helps you to know at any point in your course how you are performing. You can find out about your progress when you come to the Centre or online through the WebCT page and details of final results will be recorded on the Institute's Student Information System BANNER What happens if I find I need help? The best way to get help is to COME TO THE LEARNING CENTRE during the core time of the course you need help with. You will find a subject specialist there, ready to help you out. You will have access to support services, which are available to other CIT students, such as counselling and library/information services. Summing up...
