The Len Barratt Award for an Indigenous Student
(donated by CIT Student Association)
Len Barratt was an Indigenous man who was also a student and previous staff member of CIT who passed away in 2005. Len's support for Indigenous students and his commitment to student advocacy in general was an example to everyone. Len was a valued member of the CIT Reconciliation Committee that worked collaboratively to release the CIT Statement of Reconciliation with the ACT Ngunnawal community. He was a kind and generous person who understood the obstacles to achieving one's goal. This Award honours his family name and his work for Indigenous students at CIT. Len was on the executive of the Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association Council for two years and during that time, he brought an understanding of the range of issues faced by Indigenous people both at CIT and the community. CITSA has established this Award as an acknowledgement of Len's contribution to Indigenous students at CIT.
This prize is awarded to an Indigenous student who has completed a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree program of study at CIT. The recipient needs to have demonstrated consistent effort toward their studies and displayed a positive work ethic. In addition they must have the respect of their peers.
Inaugural Award
2007 Trent Garrett
