New ICT apprentices start at CIT
26 February 2008 Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Chief Executive, Dr Colin Adrian will welcome more than 50 new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) apprentices to the CIT Reid Campus tomorrow at their induction day. The new apprentices are part of the four year, $15 million ICT apprenticeship program for the Australian Public Service announced by the Minister for Finance and Deregulation, the Hon Lindsay Tanner MP, on 4 February 2008. CIT has joined forces with Excelior Pty Ltd, the group training company responsible for managing the ICT apprentices, to deliver the academic component of the program at its ICT facilities on the CIT Reid Campus. Dr Adrian said, "the success of this and our many other programs are CIT's flexible and specialised training methods that allow students to get intensive hands-on training that can be used the moment they step into the workplace." "Combined with our other ICT students, we have over 300 enrolments studying ICT in 2008," said Dr Adrian. The apprentices come from a wide variety of locations, with 11 students coming from as far away as the South Coast, Wagga Wagga and Mittagong. The new ICT apprentices study at CIT one day a week and work in a Federal Government Agency for the remainder of the week. What: New ICT apprentices induction at CIT
