Languages

LanguagesWould you like to study a language?

We can can offer you Certificates I to IV in:

  • Chinese (Mandarin)
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Spanish

and Certificates II to IV and a Statement of Attainment in AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language)

The four macro-skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be taught and your proficiency in each of these skills will be assessed.

From China...

From China'Ninmen hao'- Hello- from Beijing. Mistakenly, some people view studying languages as a recreational activity or something you do after buying that plane ticket to Beijing, Bordeaux, Barcelona etc. This may once have been the case but is no longer true. A second language provides you with a competitive advantage that may prove the difference in securing that ‘dream’ job in a multinational company or in some exotic location. For me, the exotic location is China.

To improve my chances of working there I developed a plan that included enrolling in the Certificate IV Mandarin course through CIT. Shortly after completing the course, I received a posting to Beijing with the Australian Embassy. My family and I now live, work and study in Beijing, experiencing sights and sounds we only ever dreamed about.

The Mandarin course at CIT is challenging but is made enjoyable thanks to the efforts of the devoted and very skilled and engaging teaching staff, Shirley Johns and Leo Chen. Did the language training I received at CIT help me further my career? Undoubtedly, yes. BTW, the Great Wall is great and does keep the rabbits out. - Ian Jackson

Having a second or third language can...

  • enhance your employment prospects and business opportunities
  • improve your understanding of other cultures
  • open up possibilities for living and working in another country

Our programs are practical and vocational rather than recreational and are taught by highly experienced and qualified teachers, most of whom are native speakers.
(Note: Learning another language is a big commitment and takes time and effort beyond the face to face classes!)
